Georgina joined us for the one day mental health champion course in January and found some of the tools really useful in her work …
Working for a charity that supports people living in life challenging circumstances, I meet people from every walk of life. It’s important to be diligent and adapt my style of working when dealing with certain situations. One of the aims of our work is to improve people’s wellbeing and provide them with positive, shared memories to look back on.
The day after the course, I ran one of our events for a family with various challenging situations going on at home. The skills I learnt enabled me to establish who needed more ‘time to talk’ and allowed me to understand the circumstances they‘re under. They also gave me the confidence to start the right sort of conversations with each individual; which in turn allowed us to get to know their story more thoroughly.
