12 Apr One Conversation Can Change Everything

How a local radio show sparked reflection on the power of emotional literacy in the workplace
Earlier this week, I was invited onto a local radio show alongside two incredible businesswomen I know and admire. What started as a casual chat quickly became something more—a heartfelt conversation about resilience, growth, and the work we do to support people and organisations.
It reminded me just how much power there is in one honest conversation.
For me, this was a chance to talk about the work I’m most passionate about: mental health awareness, emotional literacy, and building support systems in the workplace. Not just as nice-to-haves, but as essential foundations for healthy organisations.
It Starts with One Learning Experience
In my work as a trainer and facilitator, I often see how change begins with a single moment of insight. A person attends a session—sometimes unsure, sometimes curious—and leaves with a new perspective. And often, they come back for more.
Our training isn’t just about facts. It’s about reflection. It’s about those “I’ve never thought about it that way before” moments that can shift how someone sees themselves, their colleagues, and their workplace culture.
As I shared on the show:
“The language and knowledge we use—which becomes normalised—can dictate how we communicate and impact our wellbeing.”
“Our courses can give you lightbulb moments and challenge your values and beliefs, which can make a big difference to individual wellbeing and entire organisations.”
The Impact You Can’t Always See—But You Can Feel
One of the most fascinating things about being a facilitator is not knowing exactly what someone takes away in the moment. Learning isn’t always immediate. It’s reflective. It’s layered.
Sometimes, it takes a few days—or even weeks—before someone messages me to say,
“That session really stuck with me.”
Or
“I’ve changed how I speak to my team.”
That’s the kind of impact that builds resilient, emotionally literate workplaces. It’s not always measurable in the short term, but it’s transformative in the long run.
What’s Next
Being on that radio show reminded me why I do what I do. It was an opportunity to share the why behind the work, celebrate the small wins, and reflect on the ripple effects of emotionally intelligent leadership.
I left the studio feeling deeply inspired—by the stories, the connection, and the reminder that one conversation, one insight, one training session can start something much bigger.
This is just the beginning.
